Solid Waste Division
Our Services
The City Public Works Department, Solid Waste Division, manages trash collection for the City of Livingston. Each residence has been assigned a blue can that holds 99 gallons; some multi-family units have 300-gallon black tubs. To help keep your neighborhood clean and free of debris, all garbage must be bagged or contained before being placed in the can, and the lid of the garbage container must close all the way.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
It's a holiday; will my trash be collected?
Yes, drivers will collect residential and commercial waste even on holidays.
When is trash collected?
Residential and commercial waste is collected Monday through Friday and collected on all holidays. Look up your Residential Collection day on this schedule.
What time should I put my can out?
Drivers start their route each day at 5 am, so please try to have your can out the night before your collection day.
Where should I place my can?
Cans are collected from alleyways and should have 3 feet of clearance away from objects. For cans on street collection, ensure 3 feet of clearance away from parked vehicles, and boulevard trees.
Why didn't my garbage can get picked up?
It doesn't happen often, but cans will not be collected if:
-
If alleys are blocked by parked vehicles
-
Downed or low-hanging utility or cable lines following high wind event
-
The cans are overfilled, and the lids won't close completely, or if the can lid is hanging over a fence. If you have trash that won't fit into your blue can, haul it to the Transfer Station; it will not be collected.
-
Utility contractors working in the alley
-
Or cans are placed too close to buildings, parked vehicles, power poles, fences, etc. To ensure seamless collection, maintain 3' of clearance around the can, or it will result in a non-pickup.
