Finance Department

Overview

The City Finance Department provides a wide range of comprehensive finance support services to the City Manager, the Commission, and all City departments.  

  • Accounting: The Accounting Office is responsible for accounts payable, payroll, the general ledger, financial reporting including the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), cash investments, and mail processing. 
  • Budget: The Finance Director is responsible for the preparation and monitoring of the City's total annual operating budget.
  • Business Licensing and Pet Licensing
  • Tax & Assessments: Requests about taxes, assessments, and special districts.
  • Quarterly Financial Reports: These quarterly reports are to inform the City Commission of the financial progress of the Fiscal Year.  The reports also include any budget amendments that may be necessary.
  • Utility Billing: Utility Customer service requests,  billings, and customer payments. For changes or questions concerning billing, please call City Finance at (406)222-1142.

Property Tax Relief

Montana Department of Revenue offers multiple programs to help residents with their income or property taxes. Assistance is offered for low-income, a 100% disabled veteran or surviving spouse, or had a large increase in your property taxes due to reappraisal, you may qualify for tax assistance. Click here for information from the Montana Department of Revenue about the Property Tax Assistance Programs.
