Public Works Department
About us
The Public Works Department of the City of Livingston stands as a cornerstone of municipal operations, wielding a profound influence on the daily lives of our city residents.
We contribute to Livingston's quality of life and economic development in many ways. We provide clean drinking water, exceeding testing standards. We foster the growth and beauty of our city parks. We complete sewer, water, and paving projects on or before schedule. We provide reliable and efficient garbage collection services and plow city streets in winter months.
Our purview extends to overseeing permitting processes, design endeavors, and maintenance efforts encompassing city streets, alleys, bridges, sanitary sewer systems, water mains, city-owned traffic signals, and street lighting infrastructure. Covering an expanse of over 6 square miles, 71 street miles, and comprising more than 50 city-owned edifices, our jurisdiction also encompasses the stewardship of 8-1/2 miles of trail systems, 173 acres of picturesque green spaces, and the preservation of 3,880 trees, all contributing to the enduring vitality and splendor of the City of Livingston.

The City does not have an issue with lead being present in our lines, and the drinking water is completely safe. The purpose of this project is solely focused on taking an inventory of the existing infrastructure to confirm the absence of any lead pipes within our system and ensure compliance with Federal Regulations before the October 2024 deadline.
