Sister City Board

The mission of Sister Cities International is simple: to promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation — one individual, one community at a time.

Sister Cities International was established by President Eisenhower in 1956 during a White House conference on citizen diplomacy. Eisenhower envisioned this new entity as “the hub of peace and prosperity” by creating bonds between people from different cities around the world. Through these relationships, President Eisenhower believed that individuals from diverse cultures could celebrate and recognize the value of their differences. He foresaw that building these partnerships could reduce the likelihood of future conflicts.

On October 21, 1991, the City of Livingston adopted a proclamation establishing a "Sister City" relationship with Naganohara, Japan. The purpose of this proclamation was to strengthen the existing bond and foster an everlasting friendship between the two cities. Naganohara and Livingston actively promote the exchange of education and culture, encouraging goodwill, personal growth, and a deeper understanding of different cultures.

The Board meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Bev Stevenson meeting room at the Livingston-Park County Library. Meetings are open to all interested parties.
