City residents interested in being more involved in local government encouraged to consider running for elected office.

City residents who are interested in becoming more involved with their local government are encouraged to consider running for elected office. Qualified electors interested in filing can do so now through June 21, 2021, by completing a Declaration for Nomination and Oath of Candidacy form at the Park County Election Office.

Current positions available:

LIVINGSTON CITY COMMISSIONER- The filing fee is $42.00
There are three (3) positions open for the City of Livingston City Commission, to serve a 4-year term. The current salary for a City Commissioner is $4,200.00 a year. Qualifications for the position of City Commissioner are set by law. Article IV, Section 2 of the MT State Constitution and MCA Sections 13-1-111, 7-4-4104, and Section 2-40 of the Livingston Municipal Code and are summarized as follows:

  • A citizen of the United States
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Must be a qualified elector, and a resident of the City of Livingston

The City of Livingston operates under the Commission-Manager form of government and the Commission serves as the City's legislative and policy-making body. The City Commission employs the City Manager who directs the day-to-day operations of the City. City Commission meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month.

LIVINGSTON CITY JUDGE- The filing fee is $516.94
There is one (1) position for City Judge to be elected to serve a term of 4-years. The current salary for the City Judge is $51,694.00 a year. The qualifications for the position of a City Judge are set by law.

  • MCA Section 2-16-102: Citizen of the state & 18 years of age
  • Code of Ordinances Sec. 8-1: Citizen of Park County for one (1) year prior to the election and shall maintain an office and conduct business at the City/County Building.
  • Code of Ordinances Sec. 8-1: Once elected the Judge shall execute a bond to be approved by the City Commission
  • MCA Section 3-11-202 (a): Meet the qualifications of a justice of the peace under 3-10-202. Oath -- proof of certification. (1) Each justice of the peace, elected or appointed, after receipt of the certificate of election or appointment, shall, before entering upon the duties of office, take the constitutional oath of office, which must be filed with the county clerk. (2) Before the county clerk may file the oath, the elected or appointed justice shall satisfy the clerk that the justice is certified as provided in MCA 3-1-1502 or 3-1-1503.

June 21, 2021: Deadline to Withdraw from Primary Election Candidacy
August 9, 2021: Deadline to Withdraw from General Election Candidacy
PRIMARY ELECTION (if held): September 14, 2021 GENERAL: November 2, 2021

Training for new City Commissioner(s) will take place on December 16, 2021, facilitated by the MSU Local Government Center. All newly elected officials will take office in January 2022.
