Community Paramedic Program
A new Community Paramedic program in mid-February to address key health and safety needs across the community. The field of community paramedicine is a growing specialty across the U.S., designed to address health needs in a flexible way that will focus on proactive, preventative approaches to healthcare and mental health, while reducing unnecessary emergency room and 911 ambulance visits, for non-emergency medical services. This program is the first of its kind in Montana and displays a cutting-edge service model.
Specialized Rescue
Livingston Fire Rescue has expanded our service delivery model to include specialized rescue. We are supporting the Park County Sheriff's Office in joint Search and Rescue (SAR) activities. Our full time staff are certified as High Angle Rope Technicians, Swift Water/Ice Rescue, Heavy Rescue /Vehicle Extrication and coming soon - Confined Space Rescue which involves any situation where a victim may become trapped , whether above grade or below grade, in a tight space and the potential for a hazardous atmosphere exists creating a danger to life and limb. This may constitute a dirt fill collapse, a building collapse, entrapment within a tank or vessel, or even a recreational mishap that lands the victim in a rock cavern.
Fire & EMS Response
All full time members of Livingston Fire Rescue are certified to the National Standard of Firefighter 1 and 2 Structural Firefighter and Wildland Firefighter. All of our Reserve Staff are also certified as Firefighter 1 and the majority are also Firefighter 2 with Wildland certifications. All are required to become so within their first year of employment.
All reserve staff are licensed EMTs while every full time member are licensed Paramedics with the majority achieving Critical Care Paramedic Licensure. Critical Care is the highest level of pre-hospital EMS provider Licensure within the ground ambulance category. We provide 911 scene EMS response as well as Inter Facility Transfers (IFTs) and EMS standby for special events.
Paramedics and Critical Care Paramedics are utilizing advanced technology to successfully perform the tasks of emergency medicine, to include ultrasound machines, IV pumps, and new advanced cardiac monitors which integrate specific parameters to target successful resuscitation efforts thus maximizing the outcome potential for our patients.
All employees are required to obtain Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations Level with most full time employees achieving Hazmat Technician status.
All full time staff are encouraged to become Airport Rescue Fire Fighter (ARFF) certified as well.

Fire Prevention Program
In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the 1st National Fire Prevention Week. In the previous year nearly 15,000 lives were lost due to fire. "This waste results from the conditions which justify a sense of shame and horror, for the greater part of it could and ought to be prevented…it is highly desirable that every effort be made to reform conditions which have made possible so vast a destruction of the national wealth".
Livingston Fire & Rescue has made a commitment to providing fire and safety education, working to reduce the risk of fire and the toll it takes on our community. During Fire Prevention Week, we instruct over 400 children grades preschool though 3rd grade. When requested, we will conduct fire and safety programs to all ages.
Public education is a top priority and our firefighters are eager to spread the word. Training for your employees or a presentation to your group can be easily arranged, please contact us at 406-222-2061.
A certain number of our staff are certified as Fire Safety Inspectors, Plans Examiners and Fire Arson Investigators, thus building a robust fire safety and prevention program within the city.
