Experienced Lifeguard II & Swim Instructor II – City of Livingston Summer 2025 – Seasonal, Temporary

The City of Livingston Recreation Department is now hiring experienced Lifeguard II and Swim Instructor II positions for the 2025 summer season. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with prior lifeguarding and swim instruction experience who are passionate about water safety and working with the community.

Job Details:

• Location: Livingston City Pool, 214 River Drive, Livingston, MT 59047
• Job Type: Seasonal (Full-time: 40 hours/week | Part-time: 20 hours/week)
• Work Schedule: Morning, midday, afternoon, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Pay Rate: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour (based on experience)

Key Dates:

• Training Period: May 27 – June 8, 2025.
• Pool Season: June 9 – August 15, 2025.

Qualifications:

• Must be 15 years or older.
• Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications (or willing to obtain before the season).
• Prior lifeguarding experience required.
• Thorough knowledge of swimming and lifeguarding techniques, injury prevention, and spinal injury stabilization.
• Swim Instructor applicants should have experience working with children/youth (e.g., teachers, coaches, childcare providers).
• Ability to work independently, enforce rules with tact, and respond to emergencies effectively.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Lifeguarding & Water Safety: Monitor swimmers, enforce safety regulations, and perform rescues as needed.
• Swim Instruction: Teach proper swimming techniques and water safety for all ages using structured lesson plans.
• Facility Maintenance: Keep the pool deck, locker rooms, and surrounding areas clean and safe.
• Chemical Monitoring: Test and adjust water chemistry as directed.
• Customer Service: Answer questions, register patrons, and process payments for lessons and passes.
• Emergency Preparedness: Attend regular safety training sessions and respond appropriately to incidents.
• Team Communication: Work closely with coworkers, patrons, and supervisors to ensure a positive and safe experience.

Physical & Work Requirements:

• Must be able to swim at an American Red Cross Level 4 standard and perform water rescues.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and perform physical tasks such as kneeling, reaching, and pulling.
• Outdoor work environment; exposure to sunlight, humidity, and pool chemicals.
