About Us
The Public Works Department plays a vital role in the City of Livingston, directly impacting the daily lives of our residents and supporting the city's growth and sustainability.
We enhance Livingston’s quality of life and economic development by:
- Providing clean drinking water that exceeds testing standards.
- Maintaining and beautifying city parks and green spaces.
- Overseeing sewer, water, and paving projects.
- Ensuring reliable garbage collection services.
- Plowing city streets during the winter months.
Our responsibilities also include managing permitting, design, and maintenance efforts for:
- City streets and alleys
- Sanitary sewer systems
- Water mains
- Street lighting infrastructure
The Public Works Department serves an area of over 6 square miles, maintaining:
- 71 miles of streets
- More than 50 city-owned buildings
- 8.5 miles of trail systems
- 173 acres of green space
- 3,880 trees
Through these efforts, we ensure the vitality, safety, and beauty of the City of Livingston, making it a great place to live, work, and visit.
News/Announcements:
- The RV Dump Station opened for the 2025 season on Saturday, March 15th.
- Downtown street sweeping will begin on Monday, May 5th; residential sweeping begins Tuesday, May 6th.
- Green Can Collection starts Tuesday, May 6th.
- Pothole Patching: The hot plant opens on May 1st, materials have been ordered, once they arrive, our Street Department will begin patching potholes throughout the community. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and remain alert, as crews may be working in various locations around town. Please watch for signage and personnel to ensure everyone's safety.
- New summer hours for the City Transfer Station! Closed Mondays, Open Saturdays
- Lead & Copper Pipe Inventory:
May update: The City, in partnership with WET, will conduct a second round of mailers and door hangers to the 2,200 residents who have not yet responded to the questionnaire. If you missed the first round, you can still submit your information online. Mailers will go out May 15th! We urge all residents to complete the survey promptly to help ensure accurate community data.
