LIVINGSTON PARKS & TRAILS COMMITTEE INVITES RESIDENTS TO AN INFORMATIONAL MEETING ON THE O STREET TO BENNETT STREET SHARED USE BICYCLE/PEDESTRIAN PATH PROJECT

LIVINGSTON, Mont. - The Livingston Parks and Trails Committee is holding a public informational meeting on the O Street to Bennett Street Connector project, which involves building a shared use pedestrian/bicycle path connecting O Street to the existing path on Highway 89 leading to Veterans Bridge. Livingston Public Works Director Shannon Holmes will describe plans for path construction, and maps will be available for review.

The O Street project includes sidewalk and curb installation on O Street between the alley north of E Callender Street and Highway 89, and a path that continues along the south side of Highway 89 to the Veterans Bridge access. It will provide a safe route to Livingston HealthCare and Myers’ River View trail as well as other businesses, homes and facilities on the east side of Livingston. It is expected to be completed in 2019.

The Montana Department of Transportation awarded the city funding for the project through its Transportation Alternatives program, which is funded by the federal Surface Transportation Block Grant program. Livingston was one of 15 successful applications out of 42 proposals for the funds in 2017 and is required to provide a local match of 13.42%. Its application for the funds was supported by adjacent property owners, Park County, the Livingston Parks & Trails Committee, Livingston HealthCare, hospital employees, local businesses, residents, teachers, the Youth Soccer Association and the Park County Community Foundation, as well as MSU Extension and Bike Walk Montana.

The informational meeting will be held Wednesday, January 9, at 6 pm in the Community Room of the City-County Building. For more information, contact Jeanne Souvigney, Chair, Livingston Parks & Trails Committee, at 406-581-8942, or Shannon Holmes, Public Works Director, at 406-222-5667.
